Your Patient Services Center

AT McDONALD OPTICAL, we make your convenience our top priority. We understand that your time is precious and that you need an optometrist who is professional, yet convenient for your lifestyle. In order to make the transition to our office smoother for you, we have created a New Patient Center with everything you need to get started. We want you to be able to acquire the care you need from your eye doctors in Iowa City without impacting your busy schedule. Our patient center can help you learn what to expect at your appointment, acquire important forms, find easy payment options and locate our latest specials.

What to Expect During Your Eye Exam

When you first arrive for your appointment, your eye doctor will perform a comprehensive exam to assess your vision and the health of your eyes. During the eye exam, you will have the opportunity to ask your optometrist any questions you may have about your eye health and vision. Your optometrist may prescribe corrective lenses to improve your vision if your exam reveals you are having trouble seeing clearly.

Online Forms for Your Convenience

You can use this page to access all the online forms you need to acquire eye care from your Iowa City optometrist team. The forms are easy to find and download, so you can fill them out at your convenience. When you bring in the forms, we will add them to our system to keep your chart up to date or complete the requested tasks.

We have many different payment options for your consideration. We make sure every option we provide is quick and easy to access. If you need any help using our payment systems, please let us know and we will provide you with the help you need.

Vision Insurance

Medical Insurance

At McDonald Optical, we accept most medical insurances for both medical visits and routine vision exams. We also accept Medicare for exams and can help you with reimbursement for glasses after cataract surgery.

Vision Insurance

At McDonald Optical, we believe that you deserve to be able to choose the glasses, including frames and lenses, that best meet your needs and desires. Since vision insurance companies limit frame selection and lens products that are able to be used, we are not participating providers with any vision insurance plans. This includes, but is not limited to: Avesis, EyeMed, Davis Vision, Spectera, and VSP.

We offer discounts and out of network forms to those who have vision plans; please ask us how we can help you use your benefits to get "Eyewear As Individual As You".

Flexible Spending Accounts

Many employers are offering Flexible Spending Account (FSA) options to employees. Sometimes these are referred to as cafeteria plans and are elective, supplemental insurance savings plans. These plans are designed to let you save money in an account, pre-tax, to pay for additional medical expenses such as eye exams, glasses, contacts, and often laser vision surgery. Check with the benefits administrator at your work to see if you are eligible for this program. FSAs can typically be used in conjunction with any vision insurance plan to offset any out-of-pocket costs on your behalf.

Other Payment Options

At McDonald Optical we understand that cost is a concern when evaluating vision care providers. We do not want cost to be an obstacle to maintaining proper eye health and good vision. We accept various forms of payment and are able to discuss financing options with you prior to any examination.
